Erna
Schmid - Deaconess
I was born in Germany during WW II. My family and I came to the United States under the auspices of the Lutheran Refugee Service. I taught German, French and also was an administrator at a high school in Illinois for 30 years. I attended Concordia University at River Forest and received my deaconess diploma in 1992. My first call was at Oak Forest Hospital from the Northern Illinois District, and I have served at Zion since June 1995. I am at Zion in the summer, where my duties include visiting shut-ins and members in the hospital, nursing homes or in hospice. In the winter months I am involved in prison ministry in Tucson, Arizona.
